Founded in 2018, the Tumurun Private Museum is at the forefront of supporting Indonesia’s burgeoning arts scene. Located in the heart of Surakarta, the museum dedicates its establishment to collect, preserve, showcase and educate both Indonesian and international modern and contemporary art, with an emphasis on global artistic dialogues.
The name Tumurun originates from the Javanese phrase turun temurun, which translates to "passing down through the generations." This stands at the heart of the founding principle of the museum, cultivating the legacy of art for generations to come.

This has been achieved through strengthening a global dialogue deriving out of the museum’s core collection and extended initiatives.

While staying true to its Indonesian roots, the museum’s extensive collection aims to serve as an insightful and accessible resource for audiences from all walks of life and future generations.
